This year's tour focuses on the river to celebrate the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial. Tour sites are located along the river from Catskill to Coxsackie, some on bluffs above the river, some right at river's edge. Each has a different perspective on the Hudson and the river valley. The tour follows Route 385 and features homes ranging from early Dutch to late 19th century. Some are finished and some are still under restoration.
Tour headquarters will be the Freightmaster's Building at historic Catskill Point in Catskill. The Point was once the transportation and shipping hub of Greene County, and its history is preserved in historic photos and interpretive signs at the Freightmaster's Building. Street and lot parking are available. Picnic lunches will be for sale at headquarters as long as they last. The tour will be held rain or shine.
Tickets are $20 the day of the tour; $15 in advance. Participants will receive a packet of material about the sites along with a marked route map. Because of the geographic scope of this tour, tickets and programs will also be available in Coxsackie at the Vedder Library on Bronck Road just off Route 9W. Look for the signs.
To reserve advance sale tickets, send a check payable to GCHS to: Greene County Historical Society, P.O. Box 44, Coxsackie, NY 12051. Advance sale ticket reservations must be received by June 2. The tickets will be available with your tour packet at either the Freightmaster's Building at the Point or the Vedder Library in Coxsackie on June 6. Brochure and order form (PDF)
Proceeds from the sale of tour tickets support the Greene County Historical Society and its national historic landmarks, the Bronck House Museum and Thomas Cole's Cedar Grove, as well as the Vedder Research Library.
